Canada’s First Renewable Natural Gas

Heppell’s Potato Corp. has been growing potatoes in the Fraser Valley since 1920. Working with PlanET, they discovered a new way to put their organic waste to good use through the development of Fraser Valley Biogas. This anaerobic digestion system captures biogas from the organic farming waste produced on site, as well as manure provided by neighbouring farms.

The biogas is upgraded using a chemical-free water scrubbing technology to remove hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide. The result is carbon-neutral energy, ready to be injected into the FortisBC distribution system. The by-product of high-quality fertilizer is used on neighbouring farms to increase crop yields and quality.
